How Do Dental Implants Work?

Dental implants support restorations and are used to replace anything from a single tooth to all teeth. They consist of a titanium post planted in the jaw, a lifelike restoration, and an abutment that holds the restoration in place.

Before placing an implant, Dr. Faulkner first obtains precise images of your jaw and dental structures with our CBCT scanner. This method of imaging supplies our dentist with the most precise images possible of their oral structure, including the bone, soft tissue, and nerve pathways.

The actual placement process involves a titanium post being carefully guided and inserted into the jaw. The number and placement of the posts will depend on how many teeth are missing and which restoration we use to complete your smile. We use digital planning and surgical guides to provide optimal placement that both supports the restoration and promotes your oral health.

It takes a few months on average for the implant post to integrate with the bone and become a permanent part of your smile. Once fully set, it provides a stable anchor for a crown, bridge, or denture. From porcelain to zirconia, we offer our patients a choice of restoration material to meet their unique needs and preferences.

Our Dental Implant Offerings

We offer a wide range of restorations and placement methods to accommodate the various needs of our patients. Our dentist will perform an in-depth evaluation to determine the health of your smile and the best implant approach for you.

At Crenshaw-Slauson Family Dental, Dr. Faulkner can provide the following dental implant treatments:

Crowns: With implant-supported crowns, a single missing tooth doesn't have to detract from your smile. We can place an individual implant topped by a lifelike crown that's designed to blend seamlessly in with the rest of your teeth.

Bridges: An implant-supported bridge differs from its traditional alternative. While standard bridges use neighboring teeth for support, this bridge relies on two implant posts at each end. This allows us to replace several teeth in a row without impacting your surrounding smile.

Overdentures: We can support both partial and full dentures with strategically-placed implants to offer the stability and strength a normal denture might not supply. With an overdenture, you can eat, speak, and smile just as you used to. Each denture is custom-made to accommodate your unique smile while preserving any remaining healthy teeth.

Hybrid Dentures: The hybrid denture system may help you replace missing teeth with dental implants if you don’t have enough bone volume for traditional implantation. This method uses the strategic placement of several posts to assure ideal bone integration.

All-on-4®: In some cases where the jawbone is still even and durable, we may be able to support an entire dental arch using just four implants. Our dentist will carefully evaluate your smile and let you know if you may qualify for All-on-4 dental implant treatment.

Mini implants: Mini dental implants use posts that are much smaller in diameter than traditional implants and require little or no downtime after treatment. This alternative is a more cost-effective solution if you want greater stability than traditional dentures without the full dental implant treatment.

Bone Grafts & Ridge Augmentation: If your jawbone is too thin for implant placement, it may be possible to build up the bone density using a bone graft. Ridge augmentation can also be used to add supplemental bone immediately after a tooth extraction, thus making it easier to consider a dental implant once the area has healed.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are fast becoming the most popular tooth replacement option for the numerous advantages they offer, especially for oral health. A dental implant replicates the complete dental structure from root to crown and prevents bone loss in the jaw.

Many of our patients have chosen dental implants after becoming frustrated or embarrassed by their adhesive-based dentures slipping or falling out when they eat, speak, smile, or laugh. Dentures supported by implants allow our patients to express themselves authentically and with confidence.
